Rocky Mountain Rambler

Valemount and the Robson Valley are your backdrop for an epic and unforgettable mixed surface adventure! Clear blue skies, all kinds of rugged backroads, forest tracks and mountain bike trails. See it all during five days of riding surrounded by the soaring Rocky and Columbia Mountain ranges, some of BC’s finest. The scenery is straight out of a frontier Western, guaranteed to take your breath away.

DATES: July 8 – 14
Drive up on the 8th and return home on the 14th
(7 hour drive from Vancouver to Valemount)

ITINERARY

Day 1 – Gravel
Valemount & Robson Valley backroad tour ~100 km, ~1500 m

Day 2 – Gravel
Croydon-Dunster backroad, an out-back north of Valemount ~150 km, ~1500 m

Day 3 – Road
Options! Road ride north from Valemount on Highways 5 and 16, out/back to Mt. Robson (80 km) OR Moose Lake (120 km) OR Jasper (250 km ~1250 m)

Day 4 – Mountain Bike
World-famous Valemount Bike Park. 80-100 km with as much climbing as you like. For the morning, hit the north (Swift Creek) side with plenty of quiet climbs and long traverses to loamy runs, then after lunch the bike park proper is accessed by CBT’s Munday Grind, an amazing climbing trail (~700 m for the full climb) leading to rad runs down tech, jumps, berms and features til your legs give out!

Day 5 – Gravel/road
Explore the Forest Service road up the North Thompson headwaters between Valemount and Blue River. Start with a ~50 km highway ride south of Valemount to the turnoff, then ~80 km out-back up the FS road into the wilderness with a ~1000 m climb. Then wrap the day with another ~50 km highway ride south to Blue River, where there’s an incredible burger shack and a fantastic lake for swimming. A bike shuttle will pick us up in Blue River at the end of the day for the return trip to Valemount.
